I got to check out two new compact pedals from NUX: the NUX A/B Roll looper and the NUX Tutti polyphonic octave pedal.

I've always been a huge fan of compact guitar pedals.

When you're building a live looping setup, every bit of pedalboard space matters. As a solo performer, I rely on pedals that are small, reliable and versatile enough to help create a full sound without carrying a huge rig.

That's why I was excited to check out two new compact pedals from NUX: the NUX A/B Roll looper and the NUX Tutti polyphonic octave pedal.

Both pedals pack an impressive amount of functionality into incredibly small enclosures, and after testing them in my live looping setup, I was surprised by just how useful they could be for performers, guitarists and creators.

NUX A/B Roll Looper Review

The NUX A/B Roll is much more than a basic mini looper.

It combines a range of features designed for guitarists who want a compact practice, performance or recording solution:

  • Looper functionality

  • Built-in cab simulations

  • Sub octave effects

  • Headphone output

  • USB-C connectivity

  • Multiple recording modes

For a pedal this small, it's impressive how much NUX has managed to include.

One of my favourite features is the automatic recording mode. Instead of needing to hit the footswitch at exactly the right moment, the pedal can detect your playing and begin recording automatically. This makes creating loops feel much more natural, especially when performing live.

The built-in cab simulations are also a great addition. They give your guitar signal more character and make the A/B Roll useful not only as a looper, but also as a compact direct recording solution.

For musicians who practise with headphones, create content, busk or perform live loops, having these features in such a small pedal is extremely convenient.

NUX Tutti Polyphonic Octave Pedal Review

The NUX Tutti was the pedal that really surprised me.

I've used octave pedals for years in my live looping setup. When you're playing solo, an octave pedal can completely change what's possible, allowing you to create basslines, add depth to your arrangements and make a single guitar sound much bigger.

The Tutti tracks impressively well and feels very responsive when playing both single notes and chords.

The sub octave adds weight and depth, while the upper octave creates a brighter, more layered sound that can help parts stand out in a mix.

One feature that makes it especially useful for live looping is its ability to create more musical octave effects without feeling unnatural or disconnected from your playing.

The Momentary Mode is another creative addition, allowing you to activate the octave effect only while holding down the footswitch. This opens up interesting performance options, especially for adding quick octave accents or transitions during a song.

Perfect for Compact Live Looping Rigs

What impressed me most about both the NUX A/B Roll and NUX Tutti is how much functionality NUX has packed into such small pedals.

For musicians who need to travel light, build a compact pedalboard or create a powerful solo performance setup, these pedals offer a lot of flexibility without taking up valuable space.

The A/B Roll provides a complete mini looping solution with extra features for recording and practice, while the Tutti delivers a versatile octave effect that can add a whole new dimension to live performances.

After testing the Tutti, I can see it becoming a serious contender to replace the older octave pedal that has been on my board for years, which is probably the biggest compliment I can give it.

If you're into live looping, acoustic guitar, busking, worship guitar or building a compact pedalboard, the NUX A/B Roll and Tutti are definitely worth checking out.
